T-Mobile is a telecommunications operator, which is a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom and belongs to FreeMove Business Alliance. T-Mobile International AG, headquartered in Bonn, Germany, represents a group of mobile phone subsidiaries that operate using GSM and UMTS networks in Europe and the United States. T-Mobile is also a member of the Open Handset Alliance (OHA). [1]

T-Mobile USA

T-Mobile USA owns and operates the fourth largest wireless telecommunications network in North America. Recently, T-Mobile launched their 3G service with the launch of their first 3G-capable handset, the T-Mobile G1.

Coverage

Currently, 3G coverage is limited, but they recently announced 3G services to be available in 120 cities by the end of November. [2]

Network Roadmap

T-Mobile USA has stated that it will not deploy HSPA+, but will instead invest in launching LTE. They will be able to boost the current 7.2Mbps HSDPA to 14.4Mbps, but not to speeds of 28.8, which is enabled by HSPA+. Furthermore, T-Mobile has announced plans to start testing LTE networks in the middle to end of 2010.[3]

T-Mobile operates using the following frequency bands

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900MHz
  • UMTS/HSDPA: 1700/2100
